Energy Concepts

Energy! What’s the first thing that comes to mind? Is it a sparkling light? A feeling? Or is it scientific? More importantly what does it have to do with Christo-paganism?

In many pagan books and teachings energy is often discussed, however some of us (myself included) do not take the time to really truly look at what it means to us. What is the “why” behind what we do?

For me the concept of energy it is both simple and complicated. It’s something that can be understood and something that can’t be fathomed. When it comes to the vastness and the smallness of what energy is, it can really hurt to think about it.

So what do I mean when I talk about energy? The way that I view energy is as follows. When God the Almighty formed the earth he (or precisely it depending on your personal cosmology) breathed this creator essence into every fiber of what is around us. This creator essence is present for us, in every rock, leaf, and bug. It is also the very foundation of what is for me…magic.

To first understand energy we must understand just a little of science. Everything is made up of atoms. Atoms contain protons, neutrons, and electrons. These atoms make up everything from the air we breathe, to the earth around us, to the smallest microbe.

Einstein’s famous equation of E=MC ² states that mass has an energy equivalent and vice versa. This is known as the mass–energy equivalence. To put it plainly energy equals mass multiplied by the speed of light squared. This put even more plainly means that atoms=energy.

Understanding the concept of “everything is energy”, we can now talk about the law of vibration. When we look at the law of vibration, we are in fact talking about the sub atomic level (meaning smaller than an atom). Everything has a vibration. Though the table in front of you may seem to be solid, it is in fact vibrating at a rate called “table”, and you are vibrating at a rate called “human”. When we align ourselves to the vibrations of what we desire, that is the essence of magic.

While there is controversy of his experiments, Maseru Emoto’s experiments on crystalized water formations is particularly fascinating. His theory is that water can be affected by the thoughts, feelings, and words projected onto it. This is would explain why you have a bad day when someone else is angry at work, since our body is made up mostly of water.

Since energy cannot be created or destroyed, only altered from the state in which it is currently in, to something of what we most desire, the law of vibration is particularly important. When we notice that everything is made up of energy, we ourselves can alter it. Sometimes we alter it by matching our vibrational energies to what we want.

The movement these atoms and the focusing of that vibrational energy can sometimes be done while sitting in silence, focusing on our relation to that energy at that exact moment, and focusing on what we wish it to become. Other times it takes dancing around, burning an affirmation or incense, or drumming to obtain the proper vibration and to focus this energy to do our will. Moving this vibration around us is being the force of change. Some of us have a natural gift of working with the movement of this energy. Some of us have to work a little bit harder to achieve the same goals. You will eventually find what works best for you when it comes to manipulating this energy for yourself.

As a Christo-pagan I look at Christ as a divine manipulator of this energy around us. His divine nature made it easy for him to heal the sick and cure the physical ailments of others. This is also a why I call into question passages within the Bible that talk of witches and witchcraft being condemned. Understanding energy, the manipulation of energy, and how Christ used it, I have no problem incorporating witchcraft into my daily life. Christ told us in John 14:12 that whatever he has done you can do this and even greater.

A great exercise to try is to feel the vibrational energies around you. Stir them up using your breath, dancing, singing, or just picturing it in your mind. You can also relax to the vibrations of the area around you. Find the vibrations of a tree or grass and connect with it on that spiritual and physical level. If you’re like me you will find it easier the more you practice at it. You will find yourself more calm during your day without realizing it. You will find that you may not even need to see or feel the trees or grass after a while because we are all connected by this energy. It is how we choose to interact with it that will bring us that calm.

Keep in mind that I am not a quantum physicist, so my scientific knowledge is very sparse and hard for me to explain. That being said, I hope that this has been somewhat coherent, that it has peaked your interest to look more into what energy is and find out what it means to you.
